Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim TRAORÉ in Russia to deepen bilateral relations and celebrate historic victory

As part of the diversification of international partnerships advocated by the President of Burkina Faso, His Excellency Captain Ibrahim TRAORÉ, he is undertaking a strategic visit to Moscow, the capital of the Russian Federation. This trip takes place in the context of the 80th anniversary of the Soviet people’s victory over Nazism—a key event of World War II, known as the “Great Patriotic War” (1941–1945).

May 9, 1945, remains a major historical milestone for the Russian people, who commemorate it every year with solemnity. This year, the presence of the Burkinabè President alongside his Russian counterpart, His Excellency Mr. Vladimir PUTIN, and several other world leaders, reflects Burkina Faso’s intention to assert a sovereign diplomacy based on mutual respect and win-win cooperation.

This visit also presents a valuable opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations between Burkina Faso and the Russian Federation. A high-level meeting is scheduled between the two Heads of State, during which strategic issues will be discussed, both bilaterally and within multilateral frameworks.

Continuing in this spirit, President Ibrahim Traoré will also meet with members of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) community living in Russia. This moment of connection aims to maintain strong ties with the Sahelian diaspora and involve them more actively in the reconstruction and development efforts of their home countries.

Through this notable presence in Moscow, Burkina Faso reaffirms its commitment to building a network of diversified alliances, aligned with new geopolitical realities and the aspirations of its people.
