Burkina Faso: 2025-2026 agricultural campaign, Burkina Faso farmers boost productivity thanks to government support

On Friday, in Orodara, the Minister of State and Minister of Agriculture, Animal and Fishery Resources, Commander Ismaël SOMBIE, officially launched the 2025–2026 wet season agricultural campaign. This ceremony also marks the beginning of input distribution and plowing operations for local farmers, demonstrating the government’s commitment to supporting a resilient and productive agricultural sector.

For this campaign, over 10,000 tons of fertilizer and nearly 3,000 tons of seeds will be distributed to farmers in the region. These figures, based on official data, reflect the authorities’ determination to enhance productivity and food security despite challenging climatic and economic conditions.

The minister paid tribute to the efforts of farmers, whose performance has been boosted by technical and material support from the government. “Farmers have shown remarkable adaptability, thus contributing to the country’s food self-sufficiency”, he emphasized. Record harvests from the previous season, including a 12% increase in cereal production, confirm this positive momentum.

With these investments, the authorities aim for a 15% increase in agricultural output while reducing reliance on imports. Training in modern farming techniques will also be provided to maximize the use of inputs. This campaign is part of a broader public policy strategy to transform agriculture into an economic engine, while recognizing the key role of farmers in Burkina Faso’s food sovereignty.

The government thus intends to build on this progress by strengthening agricultural advisory services, improving access to quality inputs, and continuing the mechanization of farming operations.
