AES: Creation of the Confederal Development Bank, symbol of economic sovereignty within the Confederation

At the meeting of experts from the Confederation of AES States on the operationalization of priority actions, Mali’s Minister of Economy and Finance made a landmark announcement that marks a major strategic turning point in the economic integration efforts of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), which includes Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger.

With the announcement of the creation of the Confederation’s Investment and Development Bank (BCID AES), the AES has laid a fundamental cornerstone in its pursuit of financial autonomy and the consolidation of its regional economic space.

This large-scale initiative, presented by Mali’s Minister of Economy and Finance, Alousseni Sanou, is a concrete response to the pressing needs of member states.

The BCID AES will be tasked with mobilizing financial resources to support key sectors such as energy, transportation, and agriculture pillars of development in this Sahel region striving for resilience.

More than just a financial tool, the BCID embodies a political ambition: to build collective economic sovereignty, free from external conditionalities.

“This is not just a political decision but a strategic response to the economic challenges facing our Confederation,” Minister Sanou stated.

This regional bank project is part of a broader effort to pool resources and strengthen cooperation within the AES, recently founded on renewed political and security solidarity an enlightened vision championed by the leaders: Captain Ibrahim Traoré, General Assimi Goïta, and General Abdourahamane Tiani.
