Burkina-Faso: Reconquering the territory/Logistical reinforcement of the VDP to consolidate their role as local relays of the FDS

The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Brigadier General Moussa Diallo, received on Wednesday, May 22, 2025, a significant batch of equipment destined for the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), aimed at strengthening their operational capacities. This logistical reinforcement, made possible through the Patriotic Support Fund, reflects a clear intent to make the VDP more autonomous, effective, and better prepared to face armed groups. It marks yet another step forward in the country’s security strategy.

This substantial batch of logistical equipment is a strategic support package for the VDP, who are key actors in securing the national territory, particularly in high-risk areas. This logistical aid will not only enhance their mobility and protection but also strengthen their role as local partners of the national armed forces.

The recent provision of equipment to the VDP reflects a broader strategy of professionalization and resilience in the face of a mobile and fragmented enemy. It also represents a concrete response to the popular demand for security, in a context where every gain on the ground is closely monitored.

Beyond the technical aspect, this equipment handover is highly symbolic. It demonstrates the State’s recognition of the VDP, whose daily commitment forms one of the pillars of popular resistance against terrorism. It also strengthens the bond between defense forces and mobilized citizens, in a shared effort to reclaim national territory under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
