Burkina Faso/Budget 2026: The Ministry of Security examines its priorities under the leadership of Minister Mahamadou SANA

Very recently, Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Security held a budget arbitration session for its 2026 draft budget. Chaired by Minister Mahamadou SANA, this strategic meeting aimed to thoroughly review the financial proposals submitted by the various structures under the ministry, as part of the 2026–2028 multi-year budget planning process.

The main objective of this exercise was twofold: to ensure that the budget proposals align with the government’s vision of reducing public spending, and to prioritize investments that are truly transformative for the country. In a context marked by ongoing security challenges, the ministry is striving to balance financial discipline with operational effectiveness.

Each department head, accompanied by technical staff, presented their planned projects and justified their choices before a technical committee. This committee, guided by a strict approach, analyzed each request and made adjustments to ensure overall coherence in the ministry’s budget.

Through this process, the Ministry of Security aims to strengthen the impact of its actions on the ground while actively contributing to the rationalization of public expenditure. The focus was placed on the relevance, feasibility, and strategic alignment of the proposed activities.

At the end of the session, only initiatives that met the ministry’s defined strategic priorities were approved. Minister Mahamadou SANA praised the commitment of the teams and urged them to maintain this momentum of budgetary efficiency and responsibility. He emphasized the importance of rigorous execution of the approved actions to achieve the expected results. This budget arbitration process marks a key step toward more efficient public management in the service of security and sustainable development in Burkina Faso.
