Mali: FAMa neutralize an EIGS terrorist leader, a decisive victory to be hailed

In a successful precision operation, the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) have neutralized Souleymane Ag Bakawa, also known as “Soldat,” a feared leader of the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS). The operation, carried out in the locality of Tinfadimata in the Ménaka region, marks a significant step forward in Mali’s fight against terrorism.

Souleymane Ag Bakawa was a notorious and ruthless terrorist commander. Leading an especially violent armed group, he was responsible for numerous atrocities in the region, including civilian kidnappings, targeted killings of FAMa soldiers, and acts of terror against innocent populations. His elimination is a major achievement in the ongoing battle against terrorist groups in the Sahel.

The operation that led to his neutralization was planned and executed with outstanding professionalism, demonstrating the high level of effectiveness and coordination reached by FAMa. This success also highlights the growing operational strength of the national forces, who are now securing the country with commitment and resolve.

Through this action, FAMa reaffirms its core mission: defending the integrity of the national territory, protecting civilians, and eliminating all threats to Mali’s stability. This victory is not an isolated case—it is part of a broader series of offensive operations launched in recent months to dismantle terrorist strongholds and secure the most vulnerable areas.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces, while praising the resilience of the Malian people, calls on all citizens to remain vigilant, united, and supportive. It also renews its call for public trust in the defense and security forces, who continue their sacred mission to restore peace, sovereignty, and national unity. Against elusive and ruthless enemies, FAMa stands as a shield, showing with every operation that Mali will not surrender to fear or chaos. Their determination remains unshaken: to defeat terrorism—whatever the cost.
