Togo: Lomé, Africa’s logistics hub thanks to its deep-water port

Starting in August 2025, the Port of Lomé will host a 160,000-metric-ton floating terminal operated by the United Petro Group (UPG). This new petroleum infrastructure is designed to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply to several key markets across West and Southern Africa, including Ghana, South Africa, and Mozambique. With the installation of this floating terminal, Togo reaffirms its status as a critical strategic hub through its port platform.

This unique facility, capable of storing 160,000 tons of fuel, will enhance the operational capacity of the Autonomous Port of Lomé, a deep-water port and a major driver of commercial trade in Africa.

This ambitious positioning reflects a pragmatic strategy led by the Togolese government, which is keen to leverage its geographical advantage and logistical investments to streamline regional supply chains. As land-based infrastructure remains limited, Lomé offers a modern and resilient alternative to meet the growing energy demands of countries like Ghana, Mozambique, and South Africa.

This initiative embodies a clear vision: to transform Togo into a nerve center for trade and energy on the continent, where maritime efficiency and logistical stability serve as critical assets amid current geopolitical challenges. Togo’s economic leadership is thus reinforced through a regional consolidation strategy that combines boldness, innovation, and sovereignty.
