Togo – China: Lomé and Beijing strengthen their global strategic partnership
On July 29, 2025, a symbolic event gave fresh momentum to the diplomatic ties between Togo and China. The President of the Republic of Togo, Jean-Lucien Kwassi Lanyo Savi de Tové, received the credentials of the new Chinese Ambassador to Togo, Wang Min, in Lomé. More than a formal ceremony, this moment reaffirmed the strong relationship between the two countries and their shared ambition to strengthen their strategic partnership. In today’s changing world, this meeting reflects the joint desire of Lomé and Beijing to work together in areas like development, security, and cultural exchange.
For many years, Togo and China have enjoyed fruitful cooperation in fields such as infrastructure, education, health, and agriculture. This solid relationship took a major step forward during the China-Africa Cooperation Forum (FOCAC) in September 2024. At that summit, both nations officially upgraded their ties to a “comprehensive strategic partnership.” This is more than just trade—it shows a long-term commitment under China’s “Partnership for Mutual Development” policy.
As she begins her mission, Ambassador Wang Min has promised to continue this momentum. She aims to help both countries reach their shared goals by expanding areas of cooperation and writing new chapters in the China-Africa relationship. Togo and China believe in building a shared future for their people—this could lead to ambitious joint projects in technology, infrastructure, and industrial development in the coming years.
Before her appointment, Wang Min served as Deputy Director General at China’s Protocol Department, giving her strong experience in strategic diplomacy. Her deep understanding of international affairs, combined with Togo’s growing role in Africa, makes her a key figure in deepening this strategic partnership. Her arrival clearly shows China’s continued support for Togo’s path toward sustainable development, while also reinforcing its presence on the African continent.
