Burkina Faso: A clear direction and concrete results for agriculture under the vision of Captain Ibrahim Traoré
In Burkina Faso, as part of the evaluation of his performance contract, the Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture, Animal and Fisheries Resources, Ismaël Sombié, presented the results of his department’s contract evaluation to Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo. With an implementation rate of 56.63% as of June 30, 2025, the mid-term review is considered “satisfactory” by the authorities, reflecting concrete progress in the agricultural policy driven by the current transition.
These results align with the structured vision of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who has placed food sovereignty and rural development at the heart of his public agenda. With his ambition to make the country self-sufficient on all fronts, the Burkinabe leader has launched multiple structural reforms aimed at modernizing production systems, securing land, and supporting producers.
The establishment of pastoral areas in the regions of Doubégué/Tcherbo and Sondré-East is a clear example, addressing increasing land pressure and ensuring viable spaces for livestock farming. In addition, the supply of seeds and fertilizers to producers—despite predicted climate constraints—demonstrates the foresight and effectiveness of the current governance.
Agricultural campaigns are now planned seasonally and strategically, enabling better resource management. Wheat production scheduled for the last quarter reflects a dynamic agricultural policy focused on self-sufficiency.
Under Captain Traoré’s leadership, Burkina Faso is firmly committed to a prosperous and resilient agricultural future. By empowering farmers to produce, the country strengthens its economic independence and nurtures a legitimate ambition: to make agriculture a driver of social transformation and national pride.
