Manchester United fall to Arsenal and slam refereeing decisions

Manchester United opened their Premier League campaign with a frustrating 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford. Despite showing promising signs, the Red Devils once again lacked the finishing touch that haunted them throughout last season.

New manager Ruben Amorim did not hold back after the match, voicing his anger at the referee’s decision to allow Arsenal’s winning goal. According to Amorim, a foul should have been called in the build-up. “The refereeing ruined the game,” he argued in his post-match press conference, though his protests fell on deaf ears.

On the brighter side, new arrivals Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha impressed with lively performances, offering reassurance to United fans. However, the positive display could not change the outcome, leaving the team with zero points from their opener.

The English press was quick to react. The Daily Mail mocked goalkeeper Altay Bayındır’s costly mistake, insisting United should have invested in a stronger option between the posts. Yet, Manchester Evening News chose to take a more balanced view, highlighting that a narrow defeat to Arsenal, last season’s Premier League runners-up, is far from catastrophic—especially after the club’s disastrous previous campaign.

For United, the challenge remains: turning effort into victories.
