Football/ La Liga: Barça held 1-1 by Rayo Vallecano

FC Barça were held to a 1-1 draw away at Rayo Vallecano on Sunday night in La Liga’s third round. Struggling to control the game, the Catalans can thank goalkeeper Joan Garcia, who delivered a heroic performance.

Missing several regular starters, Hansi Flick’s men suffered against a bold Rayo side. Early on, Joan Garcia denied a clear chance from Ratiu (12’). Against the run of play, however, it was Lamine Yamal who made the breakthrough. The young winger won a penalty and calmly converted it himself (1-0, 40’).

Despite the lead, Barça never truly dominated. Raphinha, Ferran Torres, and Dani Olmo failed to capitalize on their opportunities, leaving the door open. Justice was served when Fran Perez equalized with a superb volley from a corner (1-1, 67’).

The final minutes were one-way traffic for Rayo, but Joan Garcia kept Barça alive with decisive saves against De Frutos (73’) and Isi Palazon (86’). Thanks to him, the Blaugrana avoided defeat but missed the chance to close in on Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao.

Barcelona remain 4th in the standings, while Rayo Vallecano, currently 10th, can feel unlucky not to have claimed all three points.
