Football/Jude Bellingham: Back in training, but facing a tough battle for his spot

After undergoing shoulder surgery and being sidelined for several months, English midfielder Jude Bellingham has returned to training. Expected to be fully fit by mid-October, Bellingham now faces the challenge of reclaiming his place both at Real Madrid and with the national team.

This summer, the former Borussia Dortmund star decided to finally prioritize his physical well-being after months of playing with a bandaged shoulder. Since joining Real Madrid in 2023, Bellingham has made a significant impact, helping the club win the Champions League and La Liga, and contributing 38 goals and 28 assists in 100 matches. Despite his past performances, he cannot take his position for granted.

Bellingham’s return coincides with strong competition in Madrid’s midfield. Arda Güler has established himself as a starter, while new signing Franco Mastantuono has impressed in his early matches. Manager Xabi Alonso will have to make difficult choices to reintegrate Bellingham into the starting eleven.

The competition extends to England as well. After a 5-0 victory against Serbia, coach Thomas Tuchel sent a clear message: no player is untouchable. For Bellingham, this serves as a reminder that form, discipline, and focus are crucial to maintain his status at both club and international levels. The coming months will test the young midfielder’s resilience and determination.
