Togo: Government focuses on girls’ education, distributing over 100,000 school kits
The Togolese government launched, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, in Djémégni (Plateaux region), a large-scale campaign to distribute school kits to more than 100,000 girls from 800 vulnerable communities. The initiative, with a total cost of 602 million CFA francs, aims to support girls’ education in public primary, secondary, and high schools.
Chaired by Sandra Johnson, Minister and Secretary General of the Presidency of the Council, the ceremony brought together several government officials, representatives of the World Bank, including Marie-Chantal Uwanyiligira, as well as UN system representatives, with the presence of Coumba Sow.

The kits, consisting of essential supplies and equipment, will be used starting from the 2025-2026 school year, scheduled to begin on September 15. According to the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Dodzi Kokoroko, this operation is a lever to build a more equitable society: “Investing in girls’ education means building the future of the Republic,” he declared.
This campaign is part of the regional SWEDD+ project (Women’s Empowerment and Demographic Dividend in the Extended Sahel), financed by the World Bank with 37.5 billion CFA francs. In addition to distribution, the program also includes awareness campaigns and family support initiatives to overcome cultural and economic barriers to girls’ education.
