Togo: Lomé and New Delhi strengthen their economic partnership for shared prosperity

Togo continues its path of openness and international cooperation by consolidating its economic ties with India, a strategic and reliable partner. The meeting between Prime Minister Faure Gnassingbé and India’s new ambassador, Shri Sayed Razi Haider Fahmi, on September 11, 2025, in Lomé, marks a decisive step in reinforcing this bilateral cooperation.

At the heart of their discussions was a shared commitment to boost partnerships in political, economic, commercial, and training sectors. This alignment of interests reflects a common vision of inclusive and sustainable development for the benefit of both the Togolese and Indian peoples.

The upcoming India-Togo Economic Forum, scheduled for October in Lomé, fits within this framework. It will provide a platform for dialogue and opportunities for private-sector actors from both countries, with a particular focus on agriculture, mechanization, and strategic investments.

India, regularly among Togo’s top three trading partners, confirms its role as a major economic ally. This strengthening of relations underscores the effectiveness of Togo’s economic diplomacy, driven by the Prime Minister’s clear and ambitious vision. It also reflects Togo’s commitment to diversifying partnerships and enhancing national capacities through mutually beneficial exchanges.
