Burkina Faso: The post office reborn as a pillar of sovereignty and service

In a strategic move to rebuild public trust and strengthen state sovereignty, Burkina Faso is transforming its national post office into a cornerstone of its modernization drive. A newly adopted “Contract-Plan,” approved by the Council of Ministers, will see the construction of 20 new post office agencies across the nation.

This initiative, led by the Ministry of Digital Transition, aims to make the post office a key agent for financial inclusion and digital transformation.

The project, valued at over 5.5 billion CFA francs half of which is self-financed signals a shift towards a sovereign and self-reliant public administration.

The new agencies will be more than mail hubs; they will function as multi-service public platforms.

By integrating the Postal Bank, they will extend essential financial services to rural and underserved populations.

Furthermore, they will provide citizens with direct access to key administrative services such as obtaining certificates and accessing social platforms online, eliminating costly travel, long delays, and the potential for corruption.

This modernization is framed not just as a technical upgrade, but as a tangible assertion of national sovereignty.

By bringing efficient, transparent, and essential public services directly to citizens’ localities, the state is reinforcing its presence and rebuilding trust through concrete solutions.
