Serena Williams sparks speculation after rejoining Tennis drug testing pool

Serena Williams has reignited rumors of a potential return to professional tennis after reappearing on the sport’s official drug testing registry. The International Tennis Integrity Agency confirmed the 44-year-old legend is back in the testing pool a mandatory step for any retired player wishing to compete again.

However, Williams swiftly denied any comeback plans. “I’m NOT coming back,” she stated on social media, attributing the paperwork to a “crazy wildfire” of speculation.

The move remains unexplained, as rejoining the list subjects her to out-of-competition testing without competitive intent.

Williams, who holds 23 Grand Slam singles titles, stepped away from the sport after the 2022 US Open, preferring to call it “evolving away” from tennis.

Her re-registration, dated October 6, would technically permit a return as early as April 2025 after the required six-month testing period.

The development follows her sister Venus’s own recent comeback at age 45. While Serena has dismissed the rumors, her return to the official list ensures the question of a Williams sisters reunion on court remains alive.
