Burkina Faso: When the people rise up against attempts at destabilisation

On the night of January 3-4, 2026, the cities of Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso presented a spectacle as powerful as it was unexpected. Far from nocturnal calm, a determined crowd spontaneously filled the main thoroughfares, waving flags and chanting slogans. The reason for this popular mobilization? Yet another attempt to destabilize the government of President Ibrahim Traoré.

While official voices have not yet spoken on this troubling episode, consistent and credible sources within the security apparatus and civil society confirm the existence of a malicious plot.

This scenario, unfortunately recurrent in the country’s recent history, aimed to undermine legitimate authority, sow chaos, and halt the national momentum of resilience and the reclaiming of sovereignty.

The people’s response, immediate and massive, constitutes the clearest possible message.

It demonstrates a sharp awareness of the dangers threatening the nation. These Burkinabe, coming from different neighborhoods, formed a barrier with their bodies and their common will.

They denounced, with unequivocal firmness, those who, in the shadows, prefer scheming calculations to the arduous fight for the country’s security and development.

This nocturnal march is a popular plebiscite, a categorical rejection of all interference and hidden agendas.

This event serves as a solemn reminder. Vigilance must remain the collective armor.

Every citizen, every community, must be on guard against divisive rhetoric, underhanded maneuvers, and attempts to manipulate public opinion. The enemies of peace thrive on discord.

In this context, it is imperative to reaffirm resolute support for President Ibrahim Traoré and the legitimate institutions he embodies.

This support is not blind allegiance, but a strategic choice for the continuity of the state in the face of the forces of chaos.

It is backing for the war effort against terrorism and the unwavering quest for true national independence.

Burkina Faso stands at a decisive crossroads in its history. Last night’s thwarted attempt must galvanize many.

Let us close ranks, protect our gains, and accompany, with a critical yet constructive spirit, the nation’s march toward peace and prosperity.

The struggle for our sovereignty is also won on the front of internal cohesion. Let us remain standing, let us remain united.
