Burkina Faso: What you need to know about the cabinet meeting of 29 January 2026

On January 29, 2026, the President of Faso, His Excellency Captain Ibrahim Traoré, presided over an important Council of Ministers meeting. This gathering led to several landmark decisions for the future of the country, aimed at strengthening stability and improving the living conditions of the Burkinabe people. Among the announced measures, the dissolution of political parties and formations, as well as the adoption of the RELANCE Plan, were at the forefront.

The dissolution of political parties constitutes a major reform. The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Mobility presented a decree annulling the existence of current political parties and repealing the laws governing their operations.

The government justifies this decision by the need to rebuild the state, having observed numerous abuses within the partisan system, such as the proliferation of parties that have fostered divisions among the population.

The objective is to restore national unity, strengthen social cohesion, and clean up the political climate.

In parallel, another significant decree was adopted: the launch of the RELANCE Plan, an ambitious national development project for the period 2026–2030.

The Plan, with an overall budget of 36,000 billion CFA francs, will be largely financed by the sovereign resources of Burkina Faso.

It is built on four strategic pillars: security, state rebuilding, human development, and infrastructure improvement.

The RELANCE Plan aims to reclaim national territory, improve citizens’ quality of life, and structure the economy.

Among its flagship objectives are reducing the poverty rate from 42% to 35%, increasing life expectancy from 61 to 68 years, and tripling the country’s energy capacity from 685 MW to over 2,500 MW.

This plan is designed to be inclusive, and its success will depend on the commitment of all Burkinabè.

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Dr. Aboubakar NACANABO, emphasized the necessity of active population participation and annual evaluations to measure the impact of the implemented actions. The RELANCE Plan is thus presented as a roadmap that must unite all the nation’s forces to address tomorrow’s challenges.

The Council of Ministers on January 29, 2026, marks a turning point in Burkina Faso’s governance, steering the country toward political reform and an ambitious economic revival. These bold decisions are expected to help the nation overcome its current challenges and secure a better future for its citizens.
