Burkina Faso: Business climate booming, with over 25,000 new businesses expected to be set up by 2025
Entrepreneurship is sweeping across Burkina Faso like a storm. According to the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (MICA), no fewer than 25,269 new businesses were created in 2025 a record that reflects a profound transformation in the business climate of the country.
This remarkable performance is no accident. It follows a series of reforms aimed at simplifying administrative procedures, reducing registration times, and offering a more secure environment for investors.
Over the past year, MICA recorded an average of nearly 486 new entities per week, ranging from small craft enterprises to tech start-ups.
The most dynamic sectors remain commerce, agribusiness, and digital services. In Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso, business registration centres are bustling, driven by a youth increasingly self-employment.
The government hails a “tangible economic boom,” stressing that these new structures will contribute to decent job creation and economic diversification.
Beyond the numbers, the entire ecosystem is strengthening. Local incubators, SME credit lines, and the digitalisation of one-stop shops have removed major barriers to private initiative.
One young shea butter processor noted, “Today, you can start a business in under 72 hours. The state understands it must support those who dare.”
With 25,269 new businesses created in 2025, Burkina Faso sends a strong signal to the region: despite a complex security context, economic resilience and reform-driven will are creating fertile ground for business.
MICA promises to continue efforts in 2026, aiming to surpass 30,000 registrations. The rise is underway — and nothing seems able to stop it.
