Sudan Founding Alliance announces unified national army and new political track for peace
The “Sudan Founding Alliance” (Tasis) announced a strategic step toward entrenching security and institutional organization in areas under its administration, declaring its intention to establish a “new national army” and to unify its various formations and forces under a single regular military umbrella, with the aim of enhancing stability and securing civilian life.
The announcement came at the end of the fourth session of the Alliance’s leadership body, held in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State, chaired by the commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and head of the body, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo (Hemedti), and attended by his deputy, the head of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), Abdelaziz al-Hilu.
The final statement issued by the leadership body said that the decision to establish the unified military force aims primarily to “work seriously to extend security and stability and address security challenges,” a shift observers see as ending the multiplicity of factions in favor of a unified regular structure that helps protect society and enforce the rule of law.
This path coincided with the body’s affirmation of completing the structures of what it described as a “peace government” in all concerned regions, with a focus on improving living conditions, fighting corruption, and prioritizing basic services such as rehabilitating health and educational facilities and providing citizens with clean drinking water.
On the political level, the body adopted a comprehensive document for a political solution to address the deep roots of the Sudanese crisis, affirming its commitment to the principles of the “Sudan Founding Charter” and the Transitional Constitution, in order to reach a just and sustainable peace that ends the suffering of the Sudanese people.
In the context of strengthening settlement efforts, the Alliance’s leadership approved the formation of a “reference political mechanism” to take charge of the negotiations and peace talks file, while launching an expanded political movement that includes internal outreach by opening up to all Sudanese national forces that believe in peace and civil transition and external engagement, through active and constructive involvement in regional and international platforms to support stability and end the conflict.
The body concluded its meeting by emphasizing the preservation of the social fabric and the fight against hate speech and division among the components of the Sudanese people, calling for solidarity and adherence to unifying national values.
It also stressed the need to protect civilians and vital facilities and ensure compliance with international humanitarian law, considering that the highest priority remains the safety of citizens and the return of life to normal.
