Togo considers joining the Sahel States Alliance (AES) in a strategic regional move

Togo, under the leadership of President Faure Gnassingbé, is positioning itself as a potential member of the Sahel States Alliance (AES). This was hinted at by Togo’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Professor Robert Dussey, who stated that the country is considering joining the AES, a move seen as a strategic step to enhance regional cooperation.

Togo has long championed a united and sovereign Africa, tirelessly working to restore peace and security, particularly in West Africa.

Officially joining the AES would mark a significant milestone in strengthening regional ties and addressing shared challenges, such as terrorism and instability.

Under President Gnassingbé’s leadership, Togo has already demonstrated solidarity with the AES member states—Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger—by supporting their efforts to overcome crises through peaceful and diplomatic means.

This spirit of unity and collaboration aligns with the AES’s mission to promote synergy and collective action.

As a neighbor of Burkina Faso, Togo faces similar security threats, making its potential membership in the AES a strategic advantage in the fight against terrorism.

The country already maintains strong bonds of friendship and cooperation with AES members, and joining the alliance would further solidify these ties in the interest of regional stability and development.

This move could signal a transformative shift in Togo’s foreign policy, reinforcing its role as a key player in fostering African unity and resilience.
