Africa/Sahel: France’s failure, Bernard Emié, head of the secret service, dismissed

The head of the General Directorate of External Security (DGSE), Bernard Emié, has been sacked by the French president, Emmanuel Macron. This was announced on Wednesday 20 December 2023 by the French Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin.

Following this decision by French President Emmanuel Macron, several analysts point to the accumulation of defeats over the last two years, French policy in Africa, especially in the Sahel zone, as the fundamental reason for the dismissal of the top boss of the French foreign intelligence service.

From coups d’états to the departure of French forces from the three Sahel countries (Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger), a strategic zone for France, not to mention failed plans to destabilise transitional regimes, or the failure of the attack on Djibo in Burkina Faso and the capture of the town of Kidal by the Malian army, France is well and truly behind these criminal groups.

The final straw for Emmanuel Macron was the arrest in Burkina Faso of four (04) French secret agents working for the DGSE.

The arrests exposed France and its accomplices in their attempts to destabilise and assassinate the transitional presidents (Captain Ibrahim TRAORE and General Abdourahamane TIANI).

According to reports, the colonial ruler is furious that his spy service has not seen the light of day in the Sahel zone, and has missed out on a great deal.

To redirect French intelligence abroad, Nicolas Lerner, 45, head of the Directorate General of Internal Security (DGSI), has taken over from Bernard Emié at the head of the DGSE.
