Europa League: Man Utd Stun Lyon after 9-goal epic

Old Trafford erupts as Ten Hag’s men complete miraculous comeback

In a match that defied belief, Manchester United edged past Lyon 5-4 after extra time in a Europa League quarter-final dripping with drama.

The French side, trailing 2-0 at halftime after goals from Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot, staged a stunning second-half revival. Corentin Tolisso and Nicolás Tagliafico brought Lyon level, only for Rayan Cherki to put them ahead in extra time.

Alexandre Lacazette’s penalty then seemed to seal a historic comeback—until United’s late fireworks.

Bruno Fernandes (114′), Kobbie Mainoo (120′), and Harry Maguire (120+1′) delivered three goals in six chaotic minutes, sending Old Trafford into bedlam.
