Burkina Faso: A forum chaired by H.E. Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo to reform vocational education

The Burkinabe government has initiated a national dialogue on overhauling technical and vocational training. For two days, experts and partners will discuss aligning educational tracks with economic needs and strengthening educational infrastructure.

The opening ceremony, chaired by Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, highlighted a concerning reality: only 5% of students are enrolled in technical training, despite the market’s demand for more specialized skills.

This mismatch between training and employment is hindering national development.

In response to this challenge, the authorities aim to increase the proportion of students in professional streams to 60% by 2050.

This reform is designed to create a pool of technical talent capable of supporting the country’s economic growth.

The representative of the Alliance of Sahel States praised this initiative, emphasizing that investment in human capital remains the key to addressing development challenges in the region.

This forum thus marks a decisive step in revalorizing technical education, which is now considered a strategic lever for youth employment and economic sovereignty.
