Premier League: Everton’s Gueye dismissed for slapping teammate

In a bizarre turn of events at Old Trafford, Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye was sent off just 13 minutes into his team’s eventual 1-0 victory over Manchester United for striking his own teammate, Michael Keane.

The unprecedented incident unfolded after a defensive mix-up. Gueye, having misplaced a pass towards Keane, began aggressively berating the defender.

The confrontation escalated dramatically when Gueye raised his hand to Keane’s face, a move deemed “violent conduct” by referee Tony Harrington, who immediately produced a red card.

The sending-off, met with laughter from the home crowd, left Everton a man down for the majority of the match.

Despite this severe early setback, the Toffees showed remarkable resilience to secure a winning goal through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the 29th minute.

Following the match, Gueye took full responsibility for his actions. He issued a public apology on Instagram, stating, I want to apologise first to my teammate Michael. I take full responsibility for my reaction.” The incident, described by outlets as “unforgable” and “bizarre,” overshadowed what became a remarkable and hard-fought away victory for Sean Dyche’s side.
