Burkina Faso: Faso Mêbo underway, launch of construction work on the Ouaga-Bobo Dioulasso motorway by President Ibrahim Traoré
Tuesday, December 16, 2025, will remain a date engraved in the history of infrastructure of Burkina Faso. Under the leadership of the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, work on the long-awaited highway connecting Ouagadougou to Bobo-Dioulasso was officially launched, realizing a collective dream and a promise of improved connectivity.
This structuring project, a modern 2×4 lane highway, represents far more than just a paved road.
It is the symbol of a new ambition for the country, aimed at facilitating economic and human exchange between its two main metropolitan areas.
For the Burkinabe people, this marks the culmination of a decades-long wait, now transformed into a national priority.
The uniqueness of this project lies in its funding and management. Entirely carried by the presidential initiative “Faso Mêbo,” the highway is financed through national funds.
This sovereign approach demonstrates a strong political will to invest in endogenous development and to control strategic infrastructure without relying exclusively on external financing. One of the major goals of Faso Mêbo opening up cities finds its most striking illustration here.
The expected impact is multidimensional. Economically, the highway will stimulate commercial exchange, significantly reduce travel time and transport costs, and boost activity in the regions it traverses.
It will enhance road safety and provide a modern framework for the transit of people and goods.
Symbolically, it constitutes a powerful lever for national integration, bringing the different components of the country closer together both physically and psychologically.
The launch of this large-scale project also opens a new era for Burkinabe infrastructure. As hinted by the presidency, it is only the first step in a vast highway network.
The announced Koudougou-Yako highway project confirms this ambitious vision of interlinking the territory with modern, efficient routes.
By laying the foundation stone for this highway, Captain Ibrahim Traoré and the Faso Mêbo Initiative are not just launching a road construction project. They are materializing a trajectory of sovereign and connected development.
This achievement, watched closely by the entire nation, carries within it the hope of a Burkina Faso that is more united, more mobile, and resolutely turned toward its future. The road to progress, quite literally, is being built.
