Music/ Asake vows accountability after fan dies in Nairobi concert crush

Nigerian Afrobeat star Asake has pledged to support an investigation after a 20-year-old fan died in a crush at his concert in Nairobi. Karen Lojore was killed amid chaotic queues and entry delays at Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday, worsened by heavy rain.

In a statement, a “devastated” Asake expressed his heartbreak, extending condolences to Lojore’s family and friends. “My heart goes out to them… Those responsible should be held accountable,” he said, affirming that music should bring “love and joy,” not tragedy.

The victim’s mother has publicly demanded justice, while Kenyan police confirm a comprehensive investigation is ongoing to determine how the incident occurred and prevent future tragedies. Concert organizers, Tukutane Entertainment, say they are cooperating with authorities.

The fatal crush echoes a 2022 incident at Asake’s London show, where two people died. The tragedy has cast a shadow over the singer’s rapid rise to stardom, raising urgent questions about crowd safety at major events.
