Togo/Land: In the face of persistent land problems, initiatives are being taken

Like many African countries, Togo faces significant land issues, with disputes over land being a common occurrence in various localities.

To find an effective and lasting solution, there is a pressing need for widespread dissemination of the Land and Property Code.

This week, national stakeholders convened once again in Lomé, the capital of Togo, to address these challenges.

The aim is to improve land governance across the country. The event marked the 4th edition of the National Forum for Land Stakeholders.

The forum, held under the theme “Community Approaches to Land Security in Light of the Land and Property Code,” aimed to help participants better understand the provisions of the Land Code.

The discussions often focused on the innovations stemming from land reform and the process of issuing land title documents.

A key topic was the strategy for supporting the population in acquiring land titles, a crucial document for protecting land ownership.

Participants were equipped with the knowledge to assist citizens in securing their land rights.

Revised in 2018, the Land Code serves as a comprehensive response to issues related to the security of land transactions, combating land speculation, and preventing expropriation.

The forum, which concluded on Thursday, July 25, highlighted the importance of these measures and reinforced the need for continuous efforts in improving land governance in Togo.
