Togo / Universities of Lomé and Kara: Towards quality education through harmonisation and student mobility
Under the leadership of President Faure Gnassingbé, who is committed to enhancing the quality of education, the universities of Lomé and Kara are taking significant steps towards aligning their academic programs and promoting student mobility.
From August 26 to 28, a pivotal meeting was held in Lomé to deliberate on standardizing course content and establishing shared criteria for degree certification.
As a result of these discussions, both universities have agreed to implement a unified procedural manual for the LMD system (Bachelor-Master-Doctorate).
They will develop a comprehensive map of each institution’s academic offerings and create a pedagogical framework that incorporates modern technologies.
This effort is designed to ensure consistency between the programs of the two universities while making it easier for students to transfer between them.
Key academic units essential for each educational pathway were also identified, and proposals were made to streamline academic exchanges.
“The significance of this initiative lies in ensuring the equivalence and recognition of degrees while opening up new opportunities for academic exchange for students,” stated Komlan Batawila, the 1st Vice President of the University of Lomé.
Additionally, Kokou Tcharie, President of the University of Kara, emphasized the importance of leveraging the expertise of the University of Lomé to enhance the quality of educational programs.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to harmonize curricula, which the government initiated at the beginning of the 2023-2024 academic year by introducing state exams for all private institutions.
