Barcelona sign promising U.S. Midfielder Pedro Soma from Cornellà

Barcelona have secured the signing of American youth international Pedro Soma from Catalan club Cornellà, adding another promising talent to their ranks. The 18-year-old midfielder, born in Boca Raton, Florida, will initially be integrated into Barcelona’s U19 squad, where he will be coached by former Brazil international Juliano Belletti.

However, there’s also potential for Soma to earn playing time with Barça Atlètic, the club’s B team, which competes in Spain’s third division.

Soma’s journey to Barcelona reflects the club’s increasing interest in young American players.

He joins a growing group of U.S. prospects at Barça, including goalkeeper Diego Kochen and midfielder Adrian Simon Gill, signaling the club’s commitment to nurturing talent from across the Atlantic.

Born to a Brazilian mother and an American father, Soma’s football journey began in Florida.

He moved to Barcelona in 2018, where he quickly made his mark in local grassroots football.

His performances caught the attention of Cornellà, a third-division side, which he joined in 2020.

During his time with Cornellà, Soma progressed to the first team, showcasing his potential and earning the attention of Barcelona’s scouts.

Soma’s move to Barcelona marks a significant step in his career, as he looks to develop further under the guidance of one of the world’s most renowned football academies.
