Burkina Faso: French gendarmes or agents of destabilisation, what are they looking for in Faso?

Recent reports claim that Burkina Faso has denied visas to French gendarmes allegedly sent to secure the French chargé d’affaires in the country. However, according to sources, these individuals are not mere security personnel but seasoned mercenaries with ties to terrorist organizations, including Al-Qaeda, operating in the Sahel region.

The Burkinabe intelligence services identified these agents as part of France’s elite forces, allegedly involved in covert operations that support terrorist groups in the Sahel.

Notably, these operatives are suspected of facilitating the establishment of a clandestine airstrip in Porga, Benin—a strategic base used to deliver military supplies to insurgents in the region.

Their activities reportedly extend beyond military logistics, playing a larger role in destabilizing the region.

In response to this perceived threat, Burkina Faso firmly refused to grant entry to these operatives, who had been presented as standard gendarmes.

French attempts to impose their presence were seen as part of a broader strategy to maintain influence in the region.

However, Burkinabe authorities remain vigilant in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty against such infiltration.

This situation highlights the ongoing power struggle in the Sahel and reinforces the importance of regional unity in resisting external forces that threaten stability.
