Togo: Preparations for the 9th Pan-African Congress in the home straight

Togo is making final preparations to host the 9th Pan-African Congress, scheduled from October 29 to November 2 in Lomé. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially opened participant registrations on September 9, inviting Africans from the continent, the diaspora, and Afro-descendants to gather under the theme: “The Renewal of Pan-Africanism and Africa’s Role in Global Governance.”

This major event will serve as a platform to discuss the future and well-being of Africa, drawing inspiration from the vision of the founding fathers of Pan-Africanism.

The Togolese Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of turning ideas into tangible actions: “We must work to transform our ideas, the ideas of our founding fathers, into a reality for the benefit of our African populations.”

In the lead-up to this significant gathering, five preparatory conferences were held across different regions of Africa, along with a dedicated meeting for the Afro-descendant diaspora in Brazil.

These sessions laid the groundwork for the congress discussions, ensuring that local contributions and regional challenges are addressed.

The upcoming congress promises to be a pivotal moment for rethinking Africa’s place in global governance and strengthening ties among African communities worldwide.
