Burkina Faso/15 October: For President Ibrahim Traore, President Thomas Sankara continues to mark the history of Faso

In Burkina Faso, during the commemoration of the tragic events of October 15, 1987, which saw the assassination of President Thomas Isidore Noël Sankara, President Ibrahim Traoré paid tribute to the man he described as a visionary. For President Traoré, Sankara, regarded as the father of Burkina Faso’s August 4, 1983, revolution, remains a lasting figure in the nation’s history.

“I offer a heartfelt tribute to this great visionary who has left an indelible mark on the history of our nation through his integrity, patriotism, and unwavering commitment to a dignified, free, and sovereign Burkina Faso,” declared President Traoré in a message shared on his X account and official social media pages of the Burkinabe presidency on October 15.

According to President Traoré, the revolutionary leader’s dedication remains a guiding force for the goals set by the current leadership.

“His struggle and vision continue to serve as a beacon that guides our actions, fueling our commitment and determination to reclaim national territory and build a new Burkina Faso marked by peace, security, prosperity, and progress for all Burkinabe, » President Traoré further emphasized in his message.

It is worth recalling that on October 2, during the launch of the second phase of the National Days of Patriotic Engagement and Citizen Participation—an event which also marked the anniversary of Thomas Sankara’s Political Orientation Speech—President Ibrahim Traoré reaffirmed his pledge to fight terrorism.

He called on his fellow citizens to embrace patriotism, dignity, and commitment in building a strong and sovereign nation.

Through these words and actions, President Traoré underscores his appeal to the people of Burkina Faso to draw inspiration from the charisma of their revolutionary leader, just as he does, as the nation moves forward in its quest for true freedom, development, and independence.
