Mali: Launch of solar lighting works as part of President Assimi Goïta’s social initiatives

The District of Bamako is undergoing a significant transformation as solar lighting installations begin on two major thoroughfares. This initiative, part of the social development efforts championed by President of the Transition, General Assimi Goïta, aims to enhance urban living conditions and bolster nighttime security in Mali’s capital.

The project targets two key routes: the “Monument of Peace–Bamako-Sénou International Airport” corridor and the “Martyrs’ Bridge–Bamako-Sénou International Airport” stretch.

A total of 1,434 solar-powered streetlights will be installed, with 630 poles covering the first axis and 834 on the second. These modern fixtures promise reliable illumination for all road users.

Each streetlight boasts an 800-watt capacity, providing 12 hours of continuous light after a 6-to-7-hour charging period.

This ensures consistent visibility throughout the night, enhancing safety for residents and travelers on these heavily trafficked routes.

Beyond improving nighttime security, the solar lighting project underscores the transitional government’s commitment to sustainable development and urban infrastructure modernization.

By embracing renewable energy solutions, Bamako is paving the way for a brighter, safer, and more environmentally friendly future.

This initiative not only meets immediate practical needs but also sets a precedent for similar projects across Mali, signaling progress toward a more secure and sustainable urban landscape.
