Burkina Faso: The authorities are pursuing their policy of sovereignty and encouraging patriotism on behalf of the nation

Under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso continues to embark on significant reforms aimed at fostering patriotism and reinforcing national sovereignty.

These efforts reflect a broader vision of aligning the country’s governance and symbols with the cultural identity and aspirations of its people.

A key milestone in this endeavor was the adoption of a new constitutional law on October 29.

This revision reinstated the historic national motto, “La patrie ou la mort, nous vaincrons” (Fatherland or death, we shall overcome), a powerful expression of patriotism, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the nation’s cause.

Building on this momentum, the government has proposed adjustments to the nation’s coat of arms to reflect the revived motto.

On November 27, during a cabinet meeting chaired by Captain Traoré, a draft law was approved to modify the 1997 legislation defining the description and significance of Burkina Faso’s national emblem.

Observers see this move as a testament to the government’s determination to realize its vision of a new and sovereign Burkina Faso. By aligning national symbols with the values of unity and pride, the administration seeks to inspire a collective sense of responsibility among citizens toward public interest and national development.

The proposed changes will soon be reviewed by the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT), whose final approval is expected to pave the way for their implementation. This initiative underscores the administration’s call for Burkinabè citizens to actively engage in shaping a renewed national identity.
