CAF postpones 2024 CHAN to August 2025 for infrastructure completion
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) to August 2025, citing the need for additional time to finalize key infrastructure upgrades in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, the tournament’s co-hosts.
CAF’s technical and infrastructure teams, working across the three nations, recommended the delay to ensure that the facilities meet the required standards. The decision follows significant progress in the construction and renovation of stadiums, training grounds, hotels, hospitals, and other essential facilities.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe commended the leadership of Kenyan President William Ruto, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni for their commitment to the tournament.
“I am impressed by the ongoing infrastructure development in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. This progress will ensure the successful hosting of CHAN in August 2025,” he stated.
The draw for the tournament is scheduled to take place in Nairobi on January 15, 2025, at 8:00 PM local time. While the exact kickoff date in August 2025 remains to be confirmed, CAF has assured fans of a world-class event that will showcase the best of African football and hospitality.
This delay highlights CAF’s dedication to delivering a high-standard tournament and providing an exceptional experience for players and fans alike.
