Togo: President Faure Gnassingbé and Chancellor Olaf Scholz discuss Bilateral Cooperation

President Faure Gnassingbé held talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Monday, on the sidelines of the G20 Compact with Africa summit. The discussions primarily focused on the longstanding bilateral cooperation between Togo and Germany. The leaders also addressed security issues in the sub-region and the Sahel, areas where President Faure Gnassingbé has actively invested.

After the talks, Chancellor Scholz reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting Togo’s development.

Germany is a key partner for the Togolese government, civil society, and entrepreneurship.

The country has decided to support Togo’s ambitious reform process outlined in the government’s «Togo 2025» roadmap, aiming for the modernization of state and economic structures and the consolidation of national peace.

This reflects the common goal of promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth in both nations to encourage active citizen participation and improve living conditions.

It’s worth noting that Lomé and Berlin maintain excellent partnership ties with a focus on four main areas: sustainable economic development and vocational training, agro-industrial transformation, decentralization and financial governance, and the strengthening of the healthcare system.

German development cooperation aligns with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

Germany is a major player in the European Team in Togo and contributes to the joint programming of the European Union for the period 2021-2027.
