Togo: Notable progress in Child Rights Protection and Promotion on World Children’s Day

On November 20th, Togo celebrated World Children’s Day, providing an opportunity to assess the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Adjovi Lolonyo Apedoh-Anakoma, the Minister of Social Action, Women’s Empowerment, and Literacy, shared progress and challenges during a meeting attended by various stakeholders, including government representatives, civil society organizations, development partners, and UN agencies.

According to a joint statement, Togo has made significant strides in protecting and promoting children’s rights, particularly in education, health, protection against violence, and children’s participation in decision-making.

However, challenges persist, and participants emphasized the need to strengthen measures to protect children, ensure their access to quality services, and promote their active involvement in decisions affecting them.

The importance of supporting coordination among all stakeholders to ensure the full realization of children’s rights was also emphasized.

Participants reaffirmed their commitment to working together to ensure the respect and protection of children’s rights in Togo.

The workshop assessing the Convention’s implementation featured presentations from five newly appointed young advocates for children’s rights by UNICEF, pledging to promote children’s rights in various areas.
