Togo takes concrete step towards future: President Faure Gnassingbé boosts investment for Energy development
Under President Faure Gnassingbé’s leadership, Togo has embarked on a path toward sustainable energy by signing a financing agreement with UAE-based AMEA Power. The ceremony in Dubai, attended by President Gnassingbé, underscores the country’s commitment to attracting investors for the well-being of its population.
The agreement, signed by Mawunyo Mila Ami Aziablé, Delegate Minister to the President in charge of Energy and Mines, and Hussain Jasim Al Nowais, CEO of AMEA Power, pertains to the financing of the expansion of the Blitta photovoltaic power plant in Togo.
This expansion will add an additional capacity of 30 MW to the plant, along with battery storage of at least 10 MWh, increasing its total production capacity from 70 MW to 100 MW.
Named after UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nayane, the expanded plant will provide clean energy to 158,000 households, benefiting nearly 790,000 people.
This initiative aligns with Togo’s ambitious projects to raise its rural electrification rate to 50% by 2025.
The Blitta power plant expansion is not just a step towards energy self-sufficiency but also reflects Togo’s commitment to renewable energy.
The country aims to achieve 50% renewable energy in its energy mix by 2030 and reduce emissions from the energy sector by 8% by 2025.
The extension of the Blitta photovoltaic power plant marks a significant milestone in Togo’s quest for clean and accessible energy.
Under President Faure Gnassingbé’s vision, the country attracts international investors to realize its energy ambitions and contribute to the well-being of its population.
