Niger/Defence: fights against terrorists to be intensified soon

The Nigerien military is actively preparing to escalate its efforts in the fight against terrorism. The country’s authorities are working diligently to provide the necessary means for warfare, encompassing training for combatants and military logistics.

In this context, there is a strong desire and commitment to enhance military cooperation between the Republic of Niger and the Russian Federation.

In addition to the defense agreement signed between the two countries last December, defense stakeholders have agreed to intensify joint actions to stabilize the security situation in Niger and enhance the combat capabilities of the Nigerien armed forces.

To achieve this, capacity-building sessions for Nigerien fighters are planned, with Russian partners set to commence these activities soon.

All of these agreements were reached during exchanges in Moscow between defense stakeholders from both countries, as part of the visit to Russia this week by a Nigerien delegation led by Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine.

With this revitalized military partnership, it is evident that the Nigerien armed forces will soon be able to strengthen their capabilities to better confront terrorist groups that have been threatening the country for over a decade.

The experiences of Burkina Faso and Mali with Russia have demonstrated that Sahelian countries stand to gain by collaborating with this global military power.
