Democratic Republic of Congo shines at 13th African games with 18 medals across multiple sports

At the conclusion of the 13th edition of the African Games, the Democratic Republic of Congo’s delegation returned from Accra with a tally of 18 medals (2 gold, 7 silver, 9 bronze). Remarkably, the majority of these medals, 11 in total, were secured by Congolese boxers.

Steve Mbiya Kulenguluka (71 kg) and Peter Pita Kabeji (80 kg) emerged as gold medalists in their respective weight categories, showcasing the country’s prowess in boxing.

Additionally, the boxing team clinched 5 silver medals and 4 bronze medals, further solidifying their dominance in the sport.

Beyond boxing, the DRC’s medal haul included 2 silver medals from handball, 4 bronze medals from wrestling, and 1 bronze medal from basketball 3X3, highlighting the country’s diverse athletic talent across various disciplines.

The Congolese contingent arrived in the Ghanaian capital with a delegation of 137 athletes, comprising 81 men and 56 women, who competed across 15 different sporting events.

This significant representation underscored the nation’s commitment to excellence in sports on the continental stage.

In the final medal standings, the Democratic Republic of Congo secured a respectable position, reflecting the dedication and hard work of its athletes in the 13th African Games.
