Burkina Faso / CNFE: The government injects a new dynamic into trade facilitation
During the Ministerial Council meeting held on Thursday, April 4, 2024, the Burkinabe government achieved a major milestone in its quest to promote international trade. Under the leadership of President Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, the council approved a crucial decree concerning the establishment, organization, functions, composition, and operations of the National Trade Facilitation Committee (CNFE).
This decree, issued by the Ministry of Industrial Development, Trade, Handicrafts, and Small and Medium Enterprises, marks a significant revision of the previous institutional framework established by decree n°2017-099/PRES/PM/MCIA dated March 13, 2017.
The CNFE, as a dedicated body for facilitating and coordinating measures outlined in the Trade Facilitation Agreement ratified by Burkina Faso in 2018, plays a crucial role in simplifying and streamlining international trade processes.
This revision aims to take into account the country’s institutional developments, budgetary considerations, and gender perspectives to enhance the CNFE’s effectiveness in executing its mandates.
The adoption of this decree signifies a significant step forward in the government’s efforts to boost international trade and foster economic development in Burkina Faso.
