Niger: The People support the end of the military agreement with the United States, a step towards national sovereignty

The revocation of the military agreement between Niger and the United States by the CNSP authorities sparked a significant reaction within the Nigerien population. On Saturday, April 13, 2024, numerous citizens responded to the call to protest issued by civil society organizations.

In Niamey, demonstrators expressed their opposition to American military presence, chanting slogans such as «No to the American army in our country» and «For genuine national sovereignty».

Banners displayed clear messages demanding the departure of foreign troops from Nigerien territory, reflecting a widespread sentiment of independence and rejection of foreign interference.

These gatherings demonstrate the Nigerien people’s determination to defend their autonomy and take control of their destiny without external influences.

They also express the desire to see Niger move towards full political and military independence, where strategic decisions are made in line with national aspirations and interests.
