Africa/AES: Inter-Malian dialogue: a crucial opportunity for reconciliation and stability in Mali

Dioncounda Traoré, former Interim President of Mali, has voiced full support for the intra-Malian dialogue initiated by the current government, emphasizing that this political initiative presents a valuable opportunity for Malians to start afresh on solid ground. «It is crucial that we seize this new opportunity,” stressed Dioncounda Traoré.

«The reconciliation among Malians has become imperative. They must sit together, exchange openly and freely to forgive each other and coexist peacefully», pleaded Dioncounda Traoré.

«If Malians can engage in unrestricted dialogue, they will be able to find appropriate solutions to definitively address the root causes of crises and conflicts that have divided them for many decades», stated Ousmane Issoufi Maïga, President of the Steering Committee for this dialogue.

It is noteworthy that this intra-Malian Dialogue, launched in December 2023 by Mali’s President, Colonel Assimi Goïta, has sparked renewed hope regarding the possibility of restoring stability and national unity in the country.

The participation of various stakeholders, including representatives from civil society, ethnic groups, and political factions, underscores the collective willingness to find sustainable solutions to the challenges facing Mali.
