Burkina Faso/Russia: A bilateral cooperation cherished by Burkina Faso authorities
The bond between Ouagadougou and Moscow is one of trust, sympathy, and mutual respect, as indicated by Russian diplomat Sergei Lavrov during his first visit to Burkina Faso on June 4, 2024.
This bilateral relationship between Burkina Faso and the Russian Federation is the kind sought after by the transitional authorities of Burkina Faso and other countries within the AES region.
It’s a relationship embraced and supported by the people of all AES member countries.
This cooperation is characterized by fairness, with neither party being disadvantaged at the expense of the other.
Unlike past partnerships where one party imposed its rules and dominance, Burkina Faso’s decision to sever ties with such partners upon the arrival of Captain Ibrahim TRAORE to power in September 2022 signals a departure from such practices.
For nearly two years, Burkina Faso and its strategic partner, Russia, have maintained excellent and robust relations characterized by friendship and multi-sectoral cooperation.
Key areas of cooperation include security, defense, nuclear energy, economy, and investment.
It is imperative for stakeholders in both countries to work towards strengthening, deepening, and revitalizing this historic and dynamic relationship. This entails ongoing consultations aimed at addressing common challenges and finding solutions together.
