Historic Conviction: Valencia fans sentenced for Racial abuse of Vinícius Júnior

Three Valencia fans have been sentenced to eight months in prison after pleading guilty to racially abusing Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior.

This marks the first conviction for racism in professional football in Spain.

In addition to their prison sentences, the supporters are banned from entering football stadiums for two years and must cover all legal costs.

The incident occurred during a La Liga match between Real Madrid and Valencia at the Mestalla Stadium in May 2023.

The match was temporarily halted after Vinícius was subjected to racist insults.

Valencia had already issued bans to the supporters involved, prohibiting them from Mestalla.
