Egyptian Football mourns: An international passes away at 31

A tragic event has shaken the Egyptian football community to its core. Ahmed Refaat, a 31-year-old international footballer, passed away on Friday night after a prolonged battle with illness.

His death marks a somber moment in the world of football.

Refaat’s health crisis began on March 11 during a match against Al-Ittihad, where he suffered a heart attack in the 88th minute shortly after entering as a substitute.

This sudden collapse left him in a coma for several weeks. Despite initial signs of recovery, his condition worsened in recent days, ultimately leading to his untimely demise.

Throughout his career, Refaat played a significant role in Egyptian football, notably representing clubs like Al-Wahda and later Cairo Modern Future FC upon his return to Egypt in January 2023.

He also made seven appearances for the national team, with his last game for the Pharaohs dating back to June 14, 2022.

The football community mourns the loss of Ahmed Refaat, remembering him not only for his contributions on the field but also for his resilience and spirit in the face of adversity.
