Amadou Onana joins Aston Villa for €60 million

Birmingham, July 23, 2024 – Aston Villa has completed the signing of Belgian midfielder Amadou Onana from Everton for €60 million.

The 22-year-old, fresh off his participation in Euro 2024 with Belgium, has opted for Villa despite interest from top clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle, and FC Barcelona.

“Aston Villa is delighted to announce the signing of Amadou Onana from Everton,” the club stated on its official website.

Known for his defensive prowess and ball recovery skills, Onana brings significant potential to Villa’s midfield.

The move marks a major coup for Villa, given the intense competition for Onana’s signature.

Onana expressed his excitement, citing the positive atmosphere and attractive football played by Aston Villa as key reasons for his decision.

“It’s an extraordinary feeling. I am happy to be here and eager to start,” he said. He also highlighted the influence of manager Unai Emery and teammate Youri Tielemans in his decision.

Having made 63 Premier League appearances for Everton over two seasons, Onana is determined to help Villa compete at the highest level, including in the upcoming Champions League.

I want to bring this football club to the top,” he stated, reflecting his ambitious outlook for his time at Villa Park.

Onana’s professional journey began with Hamburger SV in Germany before moving to LOSC Lille and then Everton.

Internationally, he has earned 17 caps with Belgium. His addition to Aston Villa’s squad is expected to bolster their midfield significantly as they aim to build on last season’s successes.
