Togo: President Faure GNASSINGBE congratulated for his commitment to the cause of Togolese children

During a meeting on Monday, July 29, with President Faure Gnassingbé of Togo, the UNICEF representative expressed satisfaction with the measures the Togolese government has implemented to protect children.

This meeting marked the end of the representative’s mission, providing an opportunity to review past achievements and discuss future initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of Togolese children.

Under the enlightened leadership of President Gnassingbé, significant steps have been taken to ensure that children in Togo grow up in favorable conditions.

The issue of child welfare has been prominently featured in the government’s 2025 roadmap, enabling the administration to undertake concrete actions to support, protect, and nurture the country’s youth.

Key initiatives have included aligning national legislative and regulatory frameworks with regional and international conventions and treaties on children’s rights.

Strengthening cooperation with UNICEF has also been a priority, enhancing on-the-ground efforts to benefit the most vulnerable children.

In this context, a new cooperation framework was established with UNICEF in 2023, following the expiration of the previous agreement.

Covering the period from 2024 to 2026, this new framework aims to intensify actions in several priority areas.

These include maternal health, vaccination, combating sexually transmitted infections (STIs), improving access to water, hygiene, and sanitation infrastructure, education, child protection, and youth training in entrepreneurship and income-generating activities.

The Togolese government’s commitment to child welfare has been met with approval from UNICEF, reflecting a shared vision of a brighter future for the nation’s children.

This renewed partnership is expected to further strengthen efforts to provide comprehensive support and protection for Togo’s younger generation.
