Mali: Minister Ahmed Attaf’s scandalous outburst or Algeria’s ambiguous position in the Malian conflict

Algiers, AlgeriaIn a recent statement, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf asserted that the conflict in Mali cannot be resolved through military means but rather through political solutions.

This declaration has prompted questions about the true intentions of Algerian authorities.

By invoking the 2015 Algiers Accord once again, Attaf appears to overlook the current on-ground realities and the dynamics wherein Malian authorities are striving to preserve their territorial integrity.

“The Algiers Accord of 2015,” designed to bring peace and stability to Mali, has been continuously violated by the separatist groups that signed it.

Far from adhering to their commitments, these groups have taken up arms, spreading terror and chaos across the country.

By reiterating this agreement, Minister Ahmed Attaf seems to disregard the destructive actions of these terrorist groups and the current situation in Mali.

Algeria’s stance raises questions about its true intentions. Why not acknowledge that the accord has become obsolete in the face of current geopolitical realities, including the involvement of foreign powers?

By continuing to promote this agreement, Algeria appears to condone the atrocities committed by these terrorist groups and diverts responsibility for the crisis from the actual perpetrators of violence.

Malian authorities, facing relentless attacks and a precarious security situation, have opted for an active defense approach to safeguard their territory.

This strategy, which prioritizes the country’s security and stability, is essential for restoring peace and protecting local populations.

Insisting on a violated and outdated accord effectively blames Malian authorities for their legitimate defense efforts and indirectly encourages the violent actions of armed groups.

It is imperative to reassess the situation and recognize that the Algiers Accord is no longer suitable for Mali’s current reality.

Minister Ahmed Attaf’s statement appears to be an attempt to divert attention from the real issues and to perpetuate an obsolete agreement.

It is crucial to support Malian authorities’ efforts to defend their country and seek solutions that reflect the present reality without endorsing the destructive actions of armed groups.
